Apple Pressing Day at Oaks Meadow

Yesterday (Sunday 28th September) saw our first event at Oaks Meadow, celebrating the Autumn bounty of apples.
With the help of Steve Adams who kindly brought along his scratter and press many of the local residents and some from further away came with their windfalls to make juice.  While the younger ones were keen to glug down the fresh juice some of the older ones were keener to make cider.  With some advice from experienced makers bottles of juice were transported home to start the age-old process of fermentation!

The Wild Hut was transformed into a play area with painting and further advice on apple cider vinegar-making and Emmie Stocking, our gardener/director, used her community and festival experience to help the children get creative.   Many thanks to her partner, Greg, and friend, Charmaine, for their help in setting up and running.

We had tea, coffee and cakes on hand and Debra Ray was excellent at selling our wares!

There was also a lottery although frankly we were too busy and having too much fun to concentrate on selling tickets to there is likely to be a prize for everyone!  We will contact those we can but the winning numbers will be posted here shortly with pictures of the prizes and we will arrange pick up / delivery as necessary.

The point of this first event, though, was not to raise money but raise awareness of our activities and it was lovely to see so many people come along on what was not - weather-wise - the most promising of days.  Thank you all!
