Let It Grow

We have now received funding from Babergh & Mid Suffolk Districts Councils to run another course for 2026.

If you are new to this course it is a friendly way to learn about growing food and flowers in small groups or, if you already have some skills, to learn and practice new techniques.

This course is intended to help you if you are feeling isolated, or want to overcome the effects of depression and anxiety by providing the opportunity to connect in a safe space.

The staff are qualified and knowledgable and supported by volunteers and we all have some lived experience of these issues.

Below is a more detailed description of what is provided:

Let it Grow - Nature Based Interventions Offer
1. Who's it for?
-
This course is suitable for a person who needs access to psychological therapies, short term medication and/or ongoing monitoring and intervention and is able to manage their mental health with this support. This person may need initial support to access provision through Social Prescribing pathways. Activities are designed to include mental health support and a specific focus on wellbeing.
2. Access to site
-
There is no public transport so contract transport will be arranged for all including wheelchair users. Parking and directions are provided for those who have their own transport.
-
The site is largely grassed but flat and some wheelchair users may need help to across this surface. Hard surfaces are provided in the immediate growing areas
3. Group and Supervision Details -
-
The group size will be a maximum of 12 - 5 staff members are available throughout.
-
Activities can be individual or group depending on needs of participant and tasks are allotted on the basis of manageability and consent.
-
The staff team have knowledge and experience of low to medium level mental health presentations including depression and anxiety and neurodiversity
4. Nature of Activities
-
Participants will join in and learn about the propagation of plants from seed to seedling to mature plant. Most of the growing will be fruit and vegetable and participants will be able to harvest and take home much of what they grow.
-
There are beds at different heights to suit wheelchair users and those not able to bend down to work and some activities can be done sitting down.
-
The space has a shelter and refreshments and biscuits will be provided but participants will need to bring any food required.
5. When it takes place
-
The sessions will take place on Tuesdays in the morning (times) and the afternoon (times) for 2 different groups for 12 weeks from Tuesday 19th May 2026.
6. Referrals
-
We are taking referrals from Link Workers who can socially prescribe for patients at GP surgeries and community organisations providing support for those with similar needs.
-
We have an assessment form that can be used if needed but it will in any case provide the headings of information that we need to agree suitability for the project.
-
We are happy to discuss particular referrals with referrers provided we have a copy of written consent of the service user. A consent section is at the end of our assessment document.
7. Self referrals
-
You are very welcome to apply directly. If you are receiving support from your GP or a community organisation we would like to contact them ensure that what we offer will add to the care you already receive.
-
If you are not receiving support we can assess you to see if you come within the group of people that the funding is intended to help.
8. Joint Working
-
We are committed to working with both referral sources and other organisations we may signpost to or refer on to as a way making the support experience more joined up and beneficial for participants.
-
We will send a brief report of early engagement in week 2, a mid term review in week 6 and a final more detailed report at the end after week 12 is completed.
-
In the last few weeks we will also be discussing with participants what, if any, other activities they would be interested in which will include an invitation to become a volunteer for Wild Heritage Suffolk and or generally for Oaks Meadow as well as joining other partner community organisations. We will contact referrers about these discussions before taking any actions to support interest shown.
-
Any concerns we have about participants will be communicated at the earliest opportunity
